The Way You Talk To Yourself Count

Updated: Jul 20, 2023

talk to yourself

A old co-worker of mind said "if someone talk to me the way I talk to me, we would be enemies". My old co-worker is also a therapist. The fact that even a therapist had said that means... that can tell you that even a therapist has issues with negative self talk. They way you talk to yourself counts. We need to change the way we talk to ourselves. We can be so harsh to ourselves. We say things to ourselves like "I can't do this", "I'm worthless", "I'm dumb", I"m [fill in the blank with something that negative]. The problem is that we believe by saying these things to ourselves it will help with our negative behaviors. However, does it? Or does saying these negative phases we say to ourselves give us an excuse to not be all we should be. Now I'm not saying you should go from completely negative self talk to completely positive self talk. However we can move the needle.

Instead of "I'm not worth anything" try "I am worth something" remember something is better than nothing. Instead of "I'm stupid" try "I can learn something new". Some other thing we can say to ourselves include "I can be there for myself", "I can support myself", and "I do deserve that raise". Let's start to change the narrative. Let's start change the way we talk to ourselves. We know what we say to ourselves influences our decision making and how me feel about ourselves. If I talk to myself negatively, I'm going to be a negative person and I'm gonna attract negative things to me. If I talk to myself positively. Well, I'm going to have a better outlook for myself.

If you need help getting into a better frame you can download my free negative self talk workbook ( https://www.getpeaceofmindtherapy.com/about-3) or you can take one of my course. I hope you start your journey on your path for peace of mind. Thank you for reading and I'll be back next week.
