I have been know to day that "I rather you ask a dumb question than not ask the question at all". What is the reason why I would say that and what do I mean by that? I mean by that is sometimes you just need to know what you don't know. We have this shaming culture and like claim "common sense". Common Sense is not a thing because someone had to tell you the thing or pop you figure it out one day (and feel stupid afterwards). Therefore it important to asked the question. No matter how stupid it sounds. If you don't know it will save you more time just to ask about it. Please just ask the question, ask the stupid question, ask the smart question, just ask any question because, it's better than not asking any question. The long and short of it is that you don't know what you don't know so ask.
